F/OSS usability study
The major objectives of this Workpackage are to tackle the obstacles and leading to a breakthrough of usability in F/OSS, by assuring that usability will be paid more attention in F/OSS in the future.
Within the usability workpackage of tOSSad the major objectives are to tackle obstacles and leading to a breakthrough of usability in F/OSS, by assuring that usability will be paid more attention in F/OSS in the future. To reach these objectives, besides the intensive spreading of awareness, the following three major areas will be addressed within Workpackage 3:

State of the art usability based on both in depth desk research and an empirical survey in F/OSS. If appropriate, the survey will be integrated into the empirical investigations conducted in Workpackage 1

Usability test of selected F/OSS components with a specific focus towards desktop applications, personal information management (PIM) and office applications

Based on the test results and research in the area of tomorrows usability requirements (thinking of mobile end devices, voice interaction, wearable ) F/OSS gaps will be detected. Derived from these recommendations for future research directions will generated

Guideline taking both the attention of usability aspects during F/OSS development and the conduction of usability testing into account Thereby a recurrent user involvement for usability assurance during shared developments via mock-ups for inclusion in F/OSS development environment will be focused.

F/OSS Usability Report, Part A
This report gives an overview of F/OSS usability projects and initiatives and includes the results of the usability survey conducted in the last months. The survey covered questions on OpenOffice.org, Firefox and Linux. Thanks to all respondents for participating!

F/OSS Usability workshop report
The usability work package of tOSSad aims at tackling the main usability obstacles in F/OSS and leading to a breakthrough of usability in F/OSS by assuring that usability will be paid more attention in F/OSS in the future. Following up on this objective a usability workshop with participation of the usability experts within the project was initialized. For the preparation of the workshop a short survey among the participants was conducted. The main reason for performing this survey was to ascertain the relevance and the level of sophistication of F/OSS and the experiences of the tOSSad WP 3 participants.
