Founded in 1963, TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey) is the supreme organization put in charge of promoting, developing, organizing and coordinating research and development in the fields of exact sciences in Turkey in line with the national targets of economic development and technical progress. It functions under the fold of the Prime Ministry with adequate administrative and financial autonomy. UEKAE (National Research Institute of Electronics & Cryptology is one of the national institutes attached to TUBITAK. Its mission is to provide technical support to basic and applied research for the technologies Turkey needs in information security and micro electronics. Fields of activity of UEKAE can be summarized as follows:

• Information Security: Secure handling/transmission of information

• Microelectronics- Semiconductor ICs research/ production

• Optoelectronics-optical communication devices, data transmission vialaser technology, optoelectronic applications (fault detection during manufacturing, signature authentication, etc)

• Various test centers
