Company mission is to provide high-tech and innovative thinking companies and partners with latest research results in the field of computer science and to provide service of its integration and exploitation. Activities in the company can be divided in to following segments: commercial, open source and research. Commercial activities include development of various products (i. e. Medicview, ISL, ISL Light). Open source software is one of the vital parts of the company, where the company supports open source movements, and has provided experts, which have contributed to projects like "virtual network computing (VNC)" and PostgreSQL. Third activity is research activity, where we are actively involved in 6th framework program, with DeDiSys project (Contract No. FP6-2003-IST-2-004152) and several national projects "GRID distributed resource manager" and "GRID computational services".

Company has proactive policy towards Open source software, where we are active protagonist and supporter of the movement. We support F/OSS movement in many ways. Experts of our team were actively involved in several projects around "virtual network computing (VNC)" and PostgreSQL solutions. Projects included from functionality extensions like encrypted communication channel for VNC to localization of PostgreSQL. All the results of the project are freely available on the Internet, and in addition several workshops were performed in order to disseminate project results. Research project, which include FW 6th and national projects result in theoretical knowledge. As extension of this project we are building and deploying various tools, which extend OSS functionality. As an example we will present a tool, which we developed under "GRID distributed resource manager", with the name GRIDdy, in the "Cracow Grid Workshop 04" in December 2004. After the presentation the solution will be freely available on corporate web site.

Second most important activity, which we perform is promotion of open source ideas to other – closed source companies, and present them with facts and figures. As results of these activities, we believe that shortly a close source software solution will be released under OSS license (name of the product and organization must remain confidential at this time, but will be made public, as soon as product is released under new license model).

XLAB has experience with F/OSS solutions, and therefore we think, we can provide a valuable input to underpin the technical barriers related to F/OSS exploitation in a larger scale. We believe that our expertise is valuable to identify the barriers in "Usability and accessibility" and "Operating system specific technical problems". For the segment of Social barriers we have experience with marketing and supporting F/OSS solutions, and we could provide our know-how, which could facilitate F/OSS acceptance.

We are cooperating or are in contact with many ICT organizations in Slovenia and around the Europe, which are involved in F/OSS.
